Siem Reap is a bustling town in northwest Cambodia, on the edge of the Tonle Sap Lake. It is the central hub to visit the majestic Angkor Archaeological Park, which includes the famous Angkor Wat temple complex. Siem Reap is well set up for tourism, with an abundance of hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and bars, catering for a lively nightlife. With many art galleries and artisan markets, Siem Reap also offers an ever growing and diverse cultural scene and the city is host to many cultural events, such as the annual International Photography Festival held in November and December. Big festivals include Khmer New Year in April and the Water Festival, held in late October/early November, with Dragon Boat Races taking place on the Siem Reap River.
The Angkor Archeological Park is expansive, and it normally requires several days to fully experience. However, there are a host of other things to see and do in the area, including countryside tours, visiting local markets, day trips to Phnom Kulen National Park and boat trips to floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake.
