As with much of Cambodia, the French Colonial architecture is an attractive bonus of the city, and Battambang is home to some of the best preserved French colonial architecture in the country. Explore Wat Sangker, Wat Damrey Sor, Wat Kampheng, Ek Phnom and Khmer Heritage Houses along the river. Further attractions outside the city include the Angkor-era temple of Phnom Banan and the stunning Phnom Sampeau mountain with its many attractions. Of course no trip is complete without riding the iconic bamboo train!
Known for gem mining and production, Pailin was a Khmer Rouge stronghold. The scenery differs to that of much of the rest of the country, with wide rolling hills and upland farming. Visit the Phnom Kiev Waterfall, the Wat Phnom Yat Sculpture Park, and the Wat Khaong Kang Pagoda.
